80 to 08
Isn't it a wonder how stubborn fads are, like a stain that may fade but will never completely go away. Well if tea, ink and all things immovable can stand time then why not leggings, pop socks and all things 80's? Mate the eighties has had encores, reappearances and a stubborn determination to stay in looks books and good looks. It's a cycle I tell you, and it's not simply what the fashionistas say to seem in the know, the proof is in the pudding (pudding being the human walking around standing out on account of their stylish revival). In the same way 8 0 can become 0 8 and then 8 0 once again, the 80's came back to the 08's like a feline always returns home and perches in her corner as if she was always there.
And it's not returned in a meek and subtle form....no, it's vengeful like an abandoned child or scornful woman. Taking no prisoners: the not so old but old enough, the young, men, women and well those in between. It says with tenacity to call it 'all the rage' and it travels extensively. You see it in New York, London, Asia and the people underneath the clothes punch you with visual statements it hard to not feel the bruise; 'I'm cool' they brutally say. Even the timid don't realize their slight 80's inspiration (airborne disease with no noticeable symptoms comes to mind). It's the bold colours (neon incl.), the (sometimes oversized) raglan sweater, the statement jewelry, big phones – think blackberry, the trench coat (yes the trench coat), beanies, American apparel, the statement tee shirt, the shades (everything from shutters to aviators) and the preppie look - Kanye west I find you guilty of 80's.
It's everywhere I tell you, cycle et al! I only carried my camera an hour and I managed to spot three people. Just look at them…eighties delight. And just watching music - Lady Gaga went 80's gaga in her video (check the zebra dress - mmmmmmm), Alphabeat went all cassettes and Rowdy superstar is my number one when it comes to 80's (titillating). Even high fashion has its leave-you-out-of-pocket-if-you-are-not-loaded version. Doesn't it just punch you with cool?
