Something to look forward to

I'd quite vivid and awkward dreams this morning. It wasn't a wonder I woke up pathetically to a grey sky without a sun. In fact I could tell it would be a morning with little expectation...awake, work and sleep again. This bothered me very little since I'd grown accustomed to creating my own little joys (everything from shopping to conversation). Today I did it a little different, I started by reading a chapter from The Gargoyle, then became anxious for the plot to move along so I skipped downstairs to start on something else. There it was a little bundle of joy with my name written on it. It's then I recalled my recent addiction to Ebay and to that my £7 purchase. I could swear the sun burst through the windows just then. I'd completely forgotton. My vintage polaroid camera. It had come!

(I thought I could leave it alone but weeks of repeatedly seeing these images would not allow me)

True to the statement 'No ideas original' or indeed safe from carbon photocopying, Amber does Grace (the grace greatly lacking). Or should I admit that Amber Rose attempted to do Grace Jones without the epitome of dark eloquence and regal artistry that bold Grace Jones has. Keep this a secret until I post the pictures, but I've shaved my hair(!) and it seems it is an ode to Grace Jones. Not to worry, i'm not fussed with what the resemblance means (violent hardness, complex femininity and being called Grace wherever I hop, skip and jump to) because had I the desire to idiolise: Grace Jones would be my pick - J'adore Grace Jones.

This in mind, you can imagine why I laughed when I saw Ambers GJ inspired shoot for complex.com. I've spotted a bevy of differences, it's all wrong but the one disparity that stood most bold and firm for me is that dirty word 'sex': with Grace Jones it's an implication of art, with Amber Rose it seems the objective. I'm confused by my intense want to protect the image and style of GJ (born from love I suspect) but Amber, oui you are beautiful and have a FANTASTICALLY super salacious body, but try hard to not eff with Grace Jones again....'pretty please'. Besides you own the gold dome look.

Black is the summation of all colours beautiful. Black skin is just beautiful full stop. It darkly glows. It's not a must that everyone should love it or even like it, each to their own I suppose but it's hard to deny its glory. For me, the darker the stronger the beauty. The stronger the beauty the increased rarity, call it the multiplier effect. Often on the substitute bench but always breathtaking when in the game, dark skin is rich skin and I love it. Mario Epanya, a Parisian based Cameroonian born makeup artist turned beauty photographer whose infamy for discovering black beauties caught my eye and his Vogue Africa cover seconded it. Speaking of which, when will there be an African Vogue Conde Nast? I took a look at his work (www.marioepanya.com) and knew I was right to sleep on the beach in the hopes of baking to a richer tone (though many couldn't understand it - I'm already considered dark skinned you see). But oh my Mario your images are dark, strong, full bodied and constantly beautiful.
