Design

Since I've been mainly preoccupied with developing the new website and doing some research into fresh and innovative design, I found this one: http://www.360langstrasse.sf.tv/page/. It's at these times I wish I were a web developer! Once you're on the site, scroll down, click the links in and on the side of the page, tour the whole website and you'll certainly be amazed. Not sure how tech savvy you are (i'm certainly not) but I couldn't believe this was a html(5) site!

Work

If you've been wondering which  crevasse i'd fallen into just look between the trail of thread and waves of fabric...because that has been where I have been for the most part of my days and nights. That and weddings. And just a fraction of my toil...The Russian Nigerian Wedding - I made the bridesmaids traditional dresses & bags and the beautiful brides wedding top.

On this occasion two things are expected of you...one; to typically keep up with antics that you shudder to speak of outside the hen circle and two; to pur-chase something of even the smallest size or price or necessity. I, my friends did both! One of which I'm allowing you the privilege. Can you see how I've dashed my old shoes to one side? Yes, they no longer filled that consumerist slash materialistic hole I wish I could cure. It's an even sadder truth that they are only two months old too. For shame.

Toile

...and trouble. Since I'm so riled up and excited about this month and it being my birthday month (yes I have extended it from a day to a week and now a month, I figure the older you get the longer it should be to account for the time you've spent alive) I thought I might show you my latest fabric find. This french toile was only £5 per metre, I managed to get the last three metres of the roll. Someone clearly privy to such a bargain bought all of the blue and left little of this bordeaux red. KISSING MY TEETH with vigour. So, I'll treat myself to a birthday outfit of sorts with this beauty of a fabric. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, here's Dita in this Westwood toile dress. I'm thinking creative visualisation (visualising me in this print) had something to do with this find.

Paul

I killed a pigeon today. Hit him at 30mph. I named him Paul. I never knew Paul but then I never knew I could feel pain for a pigeon. Crash Bang Wollop I suppose. Seems this is the theme. Oh how the feathers went flying. And he could not turn his head, because pigeons cannot turn their heads. But if he could he may have thought 'Oh, let me fly away and maybe come back later?', then made that pigeon noise as he flew from his demise. Life. You'll never know what hits you, but Paul did...Paul this post is for you! And when I sing that nursery rhyme "Fly away Peter, Fly away Paul' I'll think of you. And because Peter can come back and you can't..I'll feel great sorrow.

Paul, a mindless dirty looking bird. RIP.

In other news, i'm working very hard on the collection. Balances it out maybe?

Scream

I was rudely awakened by a blow to the head, temporary paralysis then paralytic pain. Shocked to even write it, I was that girl in the neck brace and oversized sponge ear guards strapped to a stretcher, being served to an ambulance on a very sunny saturday. Might I add how beautiful the sky was that day even amoung the chaos. Yes, I was her, you know, the girl you'd start creeping by to look more closely at. Because that curious monkey inside you caught sight of an accident and he just would not keep still unless you drove by at 5mph or walked with your head fixed in my direction to take in as much information. Hand goes up when the question 'ever been the roadside attraction?' is asked. Then at the hospital the sweet nurse herself was apologetic about what she had to do.  Yes, at the time when I thought something was broken I welcomed the nurses scissors to cut apart my most fav Merci Me jacket. Now, weeks past I'm left with this...

KMT. Yes, I know, I know, it really was life or death blah blah blah. But really? Old clothes and disposable slippers to go home in? So I thought hmm from the rubble why not make a house? Stitch here, attach some new design feature there, add a little here. Think technical ergonomic presentation. Then I just thought (between nearly being broken in half and admitting I could have been broken in half) how such a near miss was Gods way of sending a message I was clearly deaf, blind and utterly stupid to..."I'll take it away if your not using it properly dear, just thought I'd remind you my love" thats what i'd imagine he would say. So I've decided to keep my cut up jacket the way it is for reminders sake. Plenty more where it came from anyway.

Wed, 02 Mar 2011 09:01:00 -0800 Size And Beauty http://blog.mercime.co.uk/size-and-beauty http://blog.mercime.co.uk/size-and-beauty
Talkingfigures
Apparantly I'm wasting away. To my father that is. You see his idea of a woman is a full one. Plump and ripe and nothing to do with size 10 or smaller (maybe a size 14 even). I'm a size 6 up top (I wasn't blessed with my mother's upper robustness) and size 8 below (but it seems I have adopted her back end storage unit). But really, to him, I'm sickly and lacking...excuse me while I wipe his anxiety off my shoulder. So I have to really consider this, what size is beautiful and who is it beautiful to? In Africa men break a neck for convex curvature, hip hop honeys die in a hotel room to get bigger wotsits but then in parts of Europe they revel longitudinal narrowness and some models stop eating to achieve it.

The reality? Well here it is: I was talking size with the boutique (Saint Best) that stocks my wears and to my astonishment the next orders comprise of size 10 and above. Apparently, the larger sizes went faster and are more in demand. UM? whatever happened to the size 8's? Statistics tell me that the average British dress size is 16 (up two points in the last decade or so). I was going to guess a size 12 but I couldn't have been any more wrong! D'oh.

But when I really consider it, what does size matter anyway if you look and feel good, right? Cliché? Not so, I know (and have dressed) naturally underweight and overweight women and the difference between the desirable and undesirable is confidence...that is the truth I tell you. The desirable really give little care to others ideas of who they are, their confidence makes you so dizzy with awe that the imperfections are drowned completely from thought. In fact, those imperfections somehow become the very thing you like and respect, they become their trademark...alchemy! So stock confidence abundantly. Not to make you just desirable but to ultimately make you happy.

Your happiness, esteem and beliefs should have little to do with other people. Which sets up my next point nicely. Next cliché...Beauty really is in the eye of the 'beholder'. SO TRUE...wait for it, it will all make sense shortly. I'm beautiful to some and not beautiful to all (it's a harsh world out there). Queue epiphany: The ones who don't find me attractive have nothing at all to do with me...they don't like me because I'm not THEIR type. Not my own. It doesn't mean I'm not beautiful. Just not to them. So I reject the tendency to internalise a choice and don't allow it to touch my self esteem.

The 'beholder' is me because I'm MY type (not others idea of me) as should your 'beholder' be you. This should be making sense now. I've stopped questioning the idea of beauty to the modern or traditional man or any man for that matter - gosh that will have me pulled in multiple ways and leave me depressed. Besides after years on earth, it's duly noted I'll never win being pushed and pulled between your idea, their idea, his idea, other ideas of beauty and many a more things. Instead, I conjure my own idea of beauty and make me the centre of it because for me beauty and the world is through my eyes. Since I'll never see things the way anyone else does I can only define everything in my own terms.

Also consider this...beauty is usually questioned where low self esteem allows it and that can be applied to who you are and what you do.

Sunday saw me in Carnaby street with BLAZE. At Oxford Circus station this tall statuesque uber chic and striking gentleman asked to take my picture 'for a Danish Magazine' apparantly so I agreed IF I could take his. Only he decided to jump on the train after one shot and he managed to get three of me...those moments when you feel used and discarded? He decided to sprinkle the irony with salt by waving goodbye very cheery eyed and pink cheeked while the tube carried him carelessly away robbing me of my opoortunity. Blaze of course could not contain his laughter so it soon infected me. A to-blog moment.

Mayinfebruary
Nataliemay
Last saturday saw Natalie May (singer/songwriter) at the BANG Radio's studio, who came in to do an interview on the show. Me and my limitless-ness saw me infringe on her personal space and start undressing her....for the show of course. I say undressing, I mean moving her jacket out of the way. It sounds more exciting than it actually was. In fact, I was describing her outfit for the listeners and I "helped' her open her jacket so I can further describe her blouse. The men in the studio on the other hand extended reality with their own fantasy, I could see it in their eyes and the which way they popped. Besides, any tactile movement in the boob area is enough to ring off some alarm in their head.

It got me thinking though about my audacity to cringe when someone I don't know (or sometimes know) touches my bare skin or getsclose enough for me to see their pores and then I go and open someones jacket with no pre caution or permit. This apparently is why Blaze (my co-host) loves me - my lack of boundaries. But, a lesson, if you'd like one, from this is the consideration of yourself in a wider context: consider the things others do onto you with the things you do onto others in mind. Isn't it selfish to do what you want and not allow others the same privilege? Something I need to think about obviously.

In another vein, as we get to the main point, I loved her outfit...anyone who can wear leather shorts, 11 am, and look effortless wearing them, then sings perfectly with a recording voice live gets my vote. Plus her lip gloss never faded through her interview, singing or my infringement - how?  Did I say she has an AMAZING voice? You may have heard Rudimental's Sexy Sexy - that was her. She is now releasing a new single 'Closer' - romantic dubstep, see below - AND she has founded a charity. This girl is a benchmark and a one to watch! And I have to say she was cool about the whole lifting/opening jacket thing.

Mercime_hype_colour

1

Friday night saw my friends F**K Fashion Party in Maya (Fashionaires - their work is amazing) I just had to wear something of my own especially seeing that it's London Fashion Week. So, with a sartorial knife, I took a stab at Graphic hype and just threw as many bright colours into my ensemble. This my friends is probably the easiest trend to acquire since it leaves little for thinking and matching and rather expects you to haphazardly and spontaneously dash in loads of colours. Me thinks my laziness will expect this look more.

Lucky my last collection was mainly bold brights so the skirt of course is Merci Me (high waisted mini). Which by the way Merci Me will be stocking for the foreseeable future, especially since I believe it's an awfully terrible thing not to own a high waisted miniskirt in as many colours as possible. For this, each season there'll be a few colours (the amount is likely to change since it all depends on the season, the terrible fickleness of fashion) and of course there'll be a range of lengths: super mini - like the one I'm adorning, a midi mini: the middle of the thighs and a pencil: kissing the bottom part of your knee and fondling your shins. Even maybe a midi...but stay tuned.

It's also probably an opportune time to mention Merci Me will be bringing you exclusive vintage - everything from clothes to crockery (something's beautiful this way comes). The jacket and shirt is VTG @ Merci Me. That beautiful ring that you see on my hands is the Merci Me Pyramid Treasure ring, might I also add that Merci Me will have some unforgiving bold rings too. The bag, well, it's a find from my overseas travels and the shoes be Zara. The bun and Barry M's yellow nail lacquer was for good measure.
