Absent with reason...Russia Meets Nigeria

Work

If you've been wondering which  crevasse i'd fallen into just look between the trail of thread and waves of fabric...because that has been where I have been for the most part of my days and nights. That and weddings. And just a fraction of my toil...The Russian Nigerian Wedding - I made the bridesmaids traditional dresses & bags and the beautiful brides wedding top.

...and trouble. Since I'm so riled up and excited about this month and it being my birthday month (yes I have extended it from a day to a week and now a month, I figure the older you get the longer it should be to account for the time you've spent alive) I thought I might show you my latest fabric find. This french toile was only £5 per metre, I managed to get the last three metres of the roll. Someone clearly privy to such a bargain bought all of the blue and left little of this bordeaux red. KISSING MY TEETH with vigour. So, I'll treat myself to a birthday outfit of sorts with this beauty of a fabric. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, here's Dita in this Westwood toile dress. I'm thinking creative visualisation (visualising me in this print) had something to do with this find.

CRASH, BANG, WOLLOP

Scream

I was rudely awakened by a blow to the head, temporary paralysis then paralytic pain. Shocked to even write it, I was that girl in the neck brace and oversized sponge ear guards strapped to a stretcher, being served to an ambulance on a very sunny saturday. Might I add how beautiful the sky was that day even amoung the chaos. Yes, I was her, you know, the girl you'd start creeping by to look more closely at. Because that curious monkey inside you caught sight of an accident and he just would not keep still unless you drove by at 5mph or walked with your head fixed in my direction to take in as much information. Hand goes up when the question 'ever been the roadside attraction?' is asked. Then at the hospital the sweet nurse herself was apologetic about what she had to do.  Yes, at the time when I thought something was broken I welcomed the nurses scissors to cut apart my most fav Merci Me jacket. Now, weeks past I'm left with this...

KMT. Yes, I know, I know, it really was life or death blah blah blah. But really? Old clothes and disposable slippers to go home in? So I thought hmm from the rubble why not make a house? Stitch here, attach some new design feature there, add a little here. Think technical ergonomic presentation. Then I just thought (between nearly being broken in half and admitting I could have been broken in half) how such a near miss was Gods way of sending a message I was clearly deaf, blind and utterly stupid to..."I'll take it away if your not using it properly dear, just thought I'd remind you my love" thats what i'd imagine he would say. So I've decided to keep my cut up jacket the way it is for reminders sake. Plenty more where it came from anyway.

Me in Merci Me

Mercime_hype_colour

Friday night saw my friends F**K Fashion Party in Maya (Fashionaires - their work is amazing) I just had to wear something of my own especially seeing that it's London Fashion Week. So, with a sartorial knife, I took a stab at Graphic hype and just threw as many bright colours into my ensemble. This my friends is probably the easiest trend to acquire since it leaves little for thinking and matching and rather expects you to haphazardly and spontaneously dash in loads of colours. Me thinks my laziness will expect this look more.

Lucky my last collection was mainly bold brights so the skirt of course is Merci Me (high waisted mini). Which by the way Merci Me will be stocking for the foreseeable future, especially since I believe it's an awfully terrible thing not to own a high waisted miniskirt in as many colours as possible. For this, each season there'll be a few colours (the amount is likely to change since it all depends on the season, the terrible fickleness of fashion) and of course there'll be a range of lengths: super mini - like the one I'm adorning, a midi mini: the middle of the thighs and a pencil: kissing the bottom part of your knee and fondling your shins. Even maybe a midi...but stay tuned.

It's also probably an opportune time to mention Merci Me will be bringing you exclusive vintage - everything from clothes to crockery (something's beautiful this way comes). The jacket and shirt is VTG @ Merci Me. That beautiful ring that you see on my hands is the Merci Me Pyramid Treasure ring, might I also add that Merci Me will have some unforgiving bold rings too. The bag, well, it's a find from my overseas travels and the shoes be Zara. The bun and Barry M's yellow nail lacquer was for good measure.

The Corset Coat

I'm sooo excited, i'm working on new pieces and a new website. It seems to be taking most of my soul, heart, life and time but then I figure this is the necessary foundation to create something beautiful. 'You must become a slave to your art for it to be a thing of beauty' - I said it. I must remember this when i'm admitted into hospital for exhaustion and malnutrition. It goes against what I usually do (self praise) but I adore this coat and the pieces following. I simply cant wait for it all to be finished. For now though, it's coming soon.
Let this be a sign of things to come because in the end it will all be worth the work and wait.

Me Me

Two Words I mean right now!

Im_sorry
Im_sorry_disfigurement
I realise this doesn't constitute a fitting 'I'm sorry' image but I googled 'I'm sorry face' hoping I'd find the cutest most irresistably charming face - so I wouldn't need to take pictures of my not so cute face - and this my friends is what came up....HAD TO USE IT! Then that took me on another tangent (lilchamp.org - a blog about odd little toys). But I'm back now so, without further ado, in soft song: I'm sorry I haven't blogged so long. But while I've been away here's a brief of the things that were filling my time.

I went to bournemouth for my birthday - twas fantastico
Then had spectacular Merci Me sale - thrice fabo
I still have a berry...but I think I more suited to the iphone (it compliments my complexion)
I made a vintage Men's Ozwald Boateng suit into an Art deco dress for a client (post to come)
I've made six bridesmaid dresses for a Portugese wedding (post to come)
I've made a birthday outfit for a special birthday girl (post to come)
